Contest Rules

  1. You must be 21 years of age or older and possess a valid ID to participate

  2. All guests who register for the event will be given a chance to perform 1 song.

  3. There will be three judges. The DJ will call 3 volunteers from the crowd.

  4. Each contestant will be judged on the following criteria:

    • Singing Ability

      • Is the singer on pitch

      • Did they hit the notes without sounding weak/or straining

      • Did they choose a song suited to their vocal ability

      • Did they stay in time to the track/music

      • Were they able to sustain notes/phrases without losing their breath

      • Did the singer “control” the song (or sound like they were about to lose it)

      • Did they avoid obvious mistakes

      • Did the singer utilize the mic properly (pulling away for loud notes-closer for soft)

    • Song Interpretation

      • Was the singer’s phrasing well done (no breathing when they shouldn’t)

      • Did they have their own style or did they mimic the original well (either is fine)

      • Did they use loud /soft/dynamics to make the song come alive

      • Was the singer’s vocal rendition suited to the song

      • Did they sound like they connected with the lyrics

      • Did the singer show knowledge/mastery of the song

    • Stage presence

      • Did they perform the song in an entertaining manner

      • Did they utilize choreography

      • Did they draw the crowd/you into the performance

      • Were they able the sing the song without looking at the monitors (did they know the song well)

      • Were they enthusiastic/ emotionally in sync with the song

      • Was the singer confident on stage and comfortable with the song

    • Extra credit- only give to those who exhibit these “above and beyond” performance attributes

      • Did they show unusual talent/range/skill or even a “pro” level skill

      • Was the performance unique or did they do anything unique to set them apart from anyone else you have heard sing this song

      • Was the timing and/or lyrics of the song selection “challenging” (changing tempos, tricky wording, etc.)

  5. At the end of the night, the judge’s sheets will be tallied and the winners will be ranked from highest to lowest score.

  6. Each contestant will be judged on the above (4) criteria with a scale of 1- 10 numerical value. 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest. A total of all (4) criteria will be tallied at the bottom of the score sheet for a TOTAL SCORE. 

  7. Prizes/ places will be paid out to the top four contestants with the HIGHEST TOTAL SCORE at the end of each night.

  8. In the event of a tie, the two people with a tie will select another song to perform and the judges will judge the tie. In the event of a second tie, the DJ will serve as a tiebreaker. For example, two participants score the same for second place (tie). The participants select their song to perform for the judges and they perform. The two participants score the same again (tie) the DJ for that night will serve as a tiebreaker by judging both participants’ performance.

  9. Each qualifying week, the top four places from the night (first through fourth place winners) will advance to the finals where they will be invited back to compete for big cash prizes and to be named Rosebud Casino King/ Queen of Karaoke.

  10. If a participant does not advance to the finals, they may return the next week to compete again for their chance to advance. For example, a participant competes one week and takes 5th place but does not advance to the finals. That participant may return the following Saturday to compete again. 

  11. There is no limit to the number of times a participant may compete if they do not advance to the finals.

  12. Participants who do advance to the finals are not allowed to compete again and are excluded from winning any other prizes during the competition throughout the remainder of the event.

  13. Throughout the event, there will be a total of (8) eight finalists to compete in the finals.

  14. On the night of the finals, each finalist will select TWO songs to perform and be judged on the same listed criteria.

  15. At the end of the night, the judge’s sheets will be tallied, and the winners will be ranked from highest to lowest score.

  16. Only the top 3 places will be awarded with a cash prize

  17. Each winner will be logged onto the “karaoke contest” Log Sheet.

  18. Each participant will be required to fill out a publicity release form.

  19. Winners will be required to fill out all required tax reporting documentation.

  20. Rosebud Casino is not responsible for accidents, thefts or injuries during this event.
